Frequently Asked Questions

You’ve heard the term “CoWalla” but don’t know what it means? We can answer that!

  • A creative district is a designated area that has a high concentration of arts, culture, and creative businesses, organizations, and working individuals. It is geographically defined, an economic hub, and often accompanied by restaurants, theaters, and event spaces.

  • A group of local leaders came together and formed a strategic plan, a working committee, and drafted the application to create our unique designation. Through their efforts the first Washington State joint municipal creative district was established and named CoWalla.

This effort provides our community with the opportunity to diversify our economy, strengthen our creative sector, and enhance the quality of life for our residents.

You can visit www.arts.wa.gov for more about creative district designations.

  • ArtsWA partnered with WSDOT to provide a comprehensive program-branded signage package to be installed on state highways and freeways adjacent to Districts.

Our signs were installed to guide visitors directly to our creative hubs in order to boost spending in our local economy.
